Akur8 is, in all senses of the term, an equal opportunities employer.

With researchers from ENS-INRIA we created new machine learning algorithms based on innovative statistical and optimization techniques.

The creation of these proprietary algorithms is influenced by the strong regulations in force in the insurance pricing sector, demanding - amongst other things - fully transparent models (as well as statistical proof for all of the factors driving these predictions), resulting in intense activity for Akur8.

Today, we’re looking for end of study Data-Science interns, with strong interest in mathematical modeling and new machine learning techniques.

As part of our Data Science team you will contribute to the design of machine-learning models used for risk modeling, demand modeling (probability of potential clients to buy our products or renew their contracts) and price optimization (determine best price to sell the insurance product).

You will begin by :

Reading, understanding and explaining to the team the strengths and weaknesses of research papers on ML, algorithmics and optimization Implement pragmatic solutions and test their robustness on our data Speed up your code using Cython to achieve performance similar to open-source packages such as Numpy or Scikit-learn.

... and integrate your findings in production:

Implement reliable tests, use continuous integration and exploit at best AWS Cloud capabilities with our back-end engineers.

Your work will:

Rely on a strong understanding of the machine learning methods and optimization techniques used (R&D papers) Take into account the business objectives of the models created (in particular: robustness, interpretability and implementation cost). Design, build, integrate and maintain efficient, reusable and reliable code.

Requirements

We are looking for curious and motivated students from leading engineering schools and universities in the field of applied mathematics, statistics and data science possessing:

High proficiency in mathematics (in particular statistics), algorithmics (optimization), and programming Knowledge in machine learning and optimization Interest in R&D topics Strong problem solving skills: high level of rigor, integrity, curiosity and self-motivation Communication and presentation skills Excited about code craftsmanship, to build robust code using best practices Comfortable with Python (NumPy, Pandas)

Additional, non-essential, elements that may make your profile stand out include:

Experience in OOP language, in particular Java Experience with Cython is a plus
