Job Description

Within Lesaffre Corporate Research & Innovation Division (R&D Centers based in Lille metropolis, North of France), the internship will be co-hosted by:

The Data Engineering and Data Science Department, a growing 6-person team in charge of developing and industrializing Data use cases, data analytics,and computational biology.The Knowledge Center, a team of 6 people bringing support to innovation teams in searching and analysing scientific and patent literature in order to identify and explore new ideas and speed up development work.

The student will contribute to a Knowledge Discovery project, using ontology-based text data mining, scientific data analytics, APIs, and other tools to reveal new discovery opportunities in the field of applied microbiology, uncovering the role of microorganisms in specific food and beverage fermentations.

Main responsibilities

Provide unique scientific insights and expertise by establishing, streamlining, and automating a knowledge extraction pipeline for collecting, extracting, curating, and visualizing knowledge from scientific publications including statistical context.

Contribute to the exploration of existing technologies, tools and methodologies for literature-based Knowledge Discovery in order to envision the development roadmap of our Research & Innovation.

Qualifications

Experience

M1 or M2 Master’s degree or Engineer in Data Science.

Technical skills

Solid programming expertise with data package in Python and/or R. Experience in Data visualization. Ability to understand and modify existing code as well as develop new scripts. Ability to use in collaborative tolls (eg git). knowledge in databases (SQL or noSQL) in a plus.

Experience in text processing, text mining and methodologically related topic is needed. Experience with Life Sciences information resources (e.g. PubMed), literature, information analysis is a plus. Experience in natural language processing, semantic enrichment, ontologies, data mining or machine learning/AI is a plus.

Strong analytical skills to process, analyze, visualize, and present results.

Innate scientific curiosity, technical creativity, and innovative thinking, motivated to break new ground in the field of information/literature analysis and knowledge discovery.
