Data Scientist Job Description
The Data Scientist must be willing to work in a very dynamic environment which includes interactions with multiple organizations on a regular basis. They must be able to communicate effectively and have detailed knowledge of data preparation and cleaning, algorithm selection & design, results analysis, industrialization. The data scientist is solution-oriented, curious, open-minded, autonomous and willing to work in team. Rigorous, they are able to take initiative to propose and find innovative solutions. The data scientist provides expertise on mathematical and statistical concepts for the broader team and inspire the adoption of advanced analytics and data science across the organization.
Job entails in depth, operational research on analytics problematics (natural language interactions, similarity recognition, etc…), analytics solution design and maintenance, business acumen to suggest analytics projects based on the company’s data.
He/she will be working with Nokia AVA cognitive services platform. Nokia AVA is a cloud-based platform that combines big data storage, intelligent analytics and extreme automation, allowing Telecom operators to move away from traditional reactive network operations to a cognitive approach that predicts faults and solves them rapidly. As well as delivering today's expert services, AVA will facilitate a more efficient and faster delivery of Nokia services across the entire network lifecycle. This means Care services, Network implementation, Network Planning and Optimization and Managed Services are supported, with more to come as Nokia continues to move towards cloud-based delivery of services, artificial intelligence and contextualized delivery. AVA ensures low latency, high throughput and extreme resilience of the network. These elements will be key to support operators explore new business areas in the connected world.
Data Scientist Responsibilities and Duties
Lead the functional and technical analysis of customer needs regarding analytics
Contribute to the design if the customer solution
Describe, explain and document the results of the data analysis
Perform audit of the data quality, document the data extraction and transformation needs
Make the data cleaning and wrapping, collaborate to integrate targeted data in the data lake
Propose, test and select the best machine learning algorithms using different data scientists’ tools and statistical methodologies to discover, describe and predict
Collaborate to identify the most comprehensive way to share results
Document and communicate the outcomes of their researches and analysis phases
Provide workflows, source code and document notebooks for the industrialization
Participate to the industrialization specification and implementation
Work with stakeholders to understand business requirements and processes for projects so implementation can be done without delays.
For Senior positions: drive & mentor junior data scientists to define the methodology and assess the different technical solutions
Data Scientist Qualifications and Skills
Master’s Degree in Statistics, Machine Learning, Data Science, Computer Science, Computer Engineering
Certifying MOOCS (Coursera, Stanford, etc...) can be a complement
Solid knowledge in statistics: descriptive analysis (Student’s test, Fisher test, ANOVA, Chi2, etc…), supervised and unsupervised analysis (regressions, CAH, PCAn, K-Means, decision trees, etc...)
Machine Learning: linear and logistic regressions, discriminant analysis, bagging, boosting, stacking, random forests, gradient boosting, neural networks (CNN, RNN, LSTM), text mining and topics extraction, etc...
Deep Knowledge of Python (sklearn, panda, numpy,..), Spark/Scala (Mlib) or R data science libraries
Big Data: Cassandra is a plus
Ability to investigate issues and come up with resolutions for large data sets a must
Comfortable with working with multiple stakeholders in a multi-cultural environment of a global matrix organization with sensitivity and partnering
Ability to work independently and be a self-starter
Excellent organizational and communication skills
High energy, initiative, enthusiasm and persistence. English mandatory (written and verbal)
