The opportunity:
There has never been a better time to join WestRock Packaging Systems based in central France. Consumers and Brand Owners want sustainable alternatives to plastic packaging which is driving strong demand for our packaging machinery, enabling our global food and beverage customers to deliver innovative paperboard packaging solutions.
Our global machinery and automation team serves as a strategic connection between our paperboard cartons, our paperboard mills and our customers’ operations. With a deep understanding of the market and our customers challenges, we design and produce market leading, high speed automated packaging machinery that delivers clear and measurable value to our customers and to WestRock.
As Operations Director reporting to the US based VP Global Packaging Systems, you will play a crucial and senior role in the global Packaging Systems leadership team. The focus of the role is truly international, and you will have total autonomy to lead all innovation and production related functions at our French site while working in collaboration with our other machinery sites across the company to develop and supply market leading machinery and automation solutions. There is a high level of customer interaction at both a senior and technical level so excellent leadership and stakeholder relationship management skills are essential. In addition, as machinery and automation is an innovation pillar for the company, the ability to connect market needs to future solutions is also a core requirement.

How you will impact WestRock:
Mission critical responsibility to deliver integrated packaging machines to our customers on-time, on-budget and with the characteristic top quality that our customers have learned to accept as standard
Provide safety leadership; ensure the facility safety execution meets company requirements and ensure all machinery produced and shipped meets local safety regulations
Champion the development activities for new packaging systems (packaging materials, packaging design and the machinery platforms) for the French site, aligning with the company's stakeholders and processes
Collaborate with our American machinery site to provide the capacity to meet competitive lead-times for increasing machine volumes
Champion for the French site, the application of the company's lean and six sigma capabilities to deliver ongoing productivity
What you need to succeed:
Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronics engineering ideally with a packaging machinery background
Proven experience in design and build of capital machinery
10+ years managerial and leadership experience in an international environment
Excellent French and English communication skills, both written and verbal
Strong leadership skills to drive the global machinery strategic agenda throughout the organisation
Foundational financial business acumen
Able to travel domestically and internationally up to 25%
