We are currently recruiting for our Paris office, a Junior Data Scientist M/F (6 months)

The team you will be joining

The E&P Intelligence team is composed of Energy Analysts, Data Scientists and Data Engineers who work towards providing in-depth insights on the US Oil&Gas market. The product specifically focuses on the operators’ activity across the main US producing regions. Our technology relies on the ingestion, processing and interpretation of thousands of satellite images which transition through a sophisticated pipeline built with the most recent Big Data technologies. On top of the satellite imagery, the E&P Intelligence team integrates additional sources of information such as public databases to train the AI algorithms.

Role

Data scientists have a central role in Kayrros. Working in hand with the oil and gas analysts and the software engineers, they contribute to the whole pipeline of projects, including scoping projects, identifying and collecting data, constructing features, designing models, visualization, testing and improving products with clients.

They face two main challenges:

The diversity of data available (they have to combine many different sources of data: text data, satellite images, time series…) The diversity of the problems (supervised, unsupervised…)

As a data scientist, you will therefore have to:

Understand energy markets data Formulate problems considering available data and value of information Design, implement and test machine learning algorithms Continuously provide ideas to improve products and take part in all team decisions.

During this 6-month internship, your main role will consist in refactoring and retraining the deep-learning model that is used to detect the different operations across the basins. As a data scientist, you will be in charge of finding new libraries, testing new features and enhancing the processing to improve the performance of the model. On top of this main role, you will be in charge of helping the analysts on the creation of new features for the customers. For the latter role, the variety of the topics is very broad as you may be involved in the creation of a 3D geological model based on AI, or the forecast of time-series relying on machine learning models.

This is an ideal opportunity if you are looking for a six-month contract starting between January and April, and you want to join a fast-growing start-up.

You have a strong background and are passionate about machine learning, statistics, operations research. You are very interested in various topics including deep learning, NLP, machine learning applied to time series, image and signal processing. You demonstrate experience in a least one of these areas You have strong programming skills in Python, Machine Learning libraries, data visualization packages and data manipulation. Previous exposures to GitHub and R programming preferred, or additional languages like Julia You are dynamic, curious and eager to learn about the energy industry You can design and deliver working prototypes in a fast-paced environment and then put them into production with the help of software engineers You can communicate clearly in English, including with non-technical people You are willing to contribute actively and have a real impact to the company success
