Role purpose

onefinestay is looking for a Back End Lead Developer to work on a number of user-facing and internal full-stack applications. The tech behind what you see at onefinestay.com is just the tip of the iceberg. We’re a logistically complex, technology-enabled business, and the majority of our work goes towards supporting operations and services which are the core of the host and guest experience.

The role consists of managing the design and development of the back-end applications and Python stack running the whole back-office system, including the property management system, the booking engine used for our core business.

The Back End Lead Developer will define quality assurance procedures and make sure they are implemented, will animate and lead the back-end development team, and will work with our devops and infrastructure resources on industrialisation and delivery processes.

The Back End Lead Developer will report to the Director of Technology and will be part of a technical team composed of other back-end and front-end developers, a devops, a QA, an architect and SaaS systems administrators.

Duties and responsibilities

Focusing on core functionality, design and development

Supporting the refinement of existing development methodologies and engineering procedures

Taking ownership of the onefinestay platform – back-end and back-office admin interface

Technical recommendation on tech solutions and architecture

Design of application architecture, technical analysis of business requirements and technical specification

Workload estimates and team work planning in an agile environment

New features development

Unit testing, test plan writing, new features testing, non regression testing

Advanced problem analysis and solving in production

Bug fixing, follow-up and workaround, identification of pain points in the platform

Collaborating with internal stakeholders on improving existing systems and new projects

Reviewing and ensuring quality assurance of code modification and addition in source code base

Code review, commit review, in charge of code quality

Supporting junior developers and providing guidance in implementation choices

Coding standards definition and implementation

Anticipating and estimating technical and functional risks

Reporting to director of technology

Flexibility to support manager and team on discrete projects/ ad hoc tasks as required

Qualifications and experience

Required skills

A degree in Computer Science, other engineering field or equivalent industry

experience

5 years of experience in development or equivalent

2 years experience as lead developer or equivalent

Demonstrable proficiency in Python - 2+ years of experience in Python3 with use of the Django framework

Experience with ORMs - SQLAlchemy preferred

Experience in microservices / distributed architectures

Experience working in the cloud - AWS preferred

Experience with Docker / ECS

Evidence of team / technical leadership

Great at reverse engineering projects

Great at troubleshooting problems in production

Great at communicating with people

Team-player

Responsiveness

Excellent communication skills (fluency in written and spoken English)

Optional skills

Comfortable with front-end development - React - Working knowledge of HTML/CSS/JavaScript application frameworks

System administration (Ubuntu / Debian)

Great at front-end development - React

Jenkins

AWS Administration

Experience in data systems engineering is a plus

Experience in scrum methodology is a plus

Working knowledge of other languages is a bonus
