The Marine Stewardship Council is an international non-profit organisation that recognises and rewards efforts to protect oceans and safeguard seafood supplies for the future.

Their mission is to use their ecolabel and fishery certification programme to contribute to the health of the world's oceans by recognising and rewarding sustainable fishing practices, influencing the choices people make when buying seafood and working with their partners to transform the seafood market to a sustainable basis.

Role purpose :
To develop, implement, track and manage the commercial outreach program, market development, retail, brand and foodservice areas in France. Ensure a highly dynamic and ambitious commercial outreach plan, with the aim of increased availability of MSC-certified and labelled products for consumers, that helps support both increased awareness of the MSC ecolabel in France, and delivery of MSC's theory of change through enabling supply of product from fisheries to key commercial partners in France.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver the MSC's France Commercial team strategy and work plan, in close collaboration with the France Program Director, Commercial team, Marketing Communications (MarComms) and Fisheries outreach team leads.
- Lead, motivate and manage the Commercial team, ensuring delivery of objectives and development of team members.
- Lead the Commercial team in the implementation of the commercial team strategy for France, that is consistent with the MSC's mission and strategic objectives and delivers real benefits for MSC's partners.
- Work with existing key accounts and partners to maximise their engagement with the MSC program to : build, deepen and strengthen their participation with the MSC; ensure use of MSC ecolabel is according to MSCI guidelines and ensure licensing decisions are taken in collaboration the MSCI Label Licensing team.
- Continue to grow and develop the reach of MSC program with partners throughout the seafood supply chain; managing targeted outreach activities to retailers, wholesale distributors, foodservice operators, processors, importers and emerging markets.
- Increase demand for, and penetration of, MSC-certified and labelled products in France and enable MSC partners to communicate their commitments via strong marketing and communications activities.
- Work closely with the France Senior Marketing and Communications Manager in delivering effective co-marketing campaigns and initiatives with key strategic partners and support the development and delivery of MSC France's key campaigns across the year calendar.
- Identify issues and obstacles to the effective delivery of the MSC program, and devise and propose solutions to those obstacles through active contribution to the relevant MSC departments and review projects. Whilst the primary focus here will BE on effective functioning of the Chain of Custody and Logo License progress in France, due consideration is required of the global nature of the MSC program and the need for solutions that are applicable across all markets important to the MSC.
- Linked to the above, contribute to MSC's policy discussions on key issues affecting commercial success of the MSC, playing an active part in the activities of the global commercial outreach team and disseminating learning throughout MSC teams.
- Work in conjunction with the MSC's Fisheries teams to support MSC-certified fisheries in gaining access to the French and Global marketplace and contribute to the development of growth opportunities within the French fisheries landscape.
- Represent the MSC at meetings, conferences and in the press, as appropriate and support in the delivery of key MSC events across the team.
- Assume responsibility for negotiating, agreeing and signing contracts on MSC's behalf with external consultants and service providers on commercial related projects as required, and within delegated authority limits.
- Ensure that project management best practices are employed to deliver all commercial activities within the strategy, budget and to deadline.
- Undertake hands on day-to-day activity alongside colleagues to deliver strategies and action plans.
- Undertake any other responsibilities assigned by the Program Director, France or Regional Director, Southern Europe.

Person Specification

Technical Skills, Qualifications & Experience :
- Post-graduate degree or equivalent experience in Business, Supply Chain Sustainability or Resource Management
- Relevant experience within supply chains (processors through to retailers and foodservice companies) covering marketing, brand development, direct sales or other related commercial activities, with a strong preference given to those with experience directly in the seafood sector
- Knowledge of third-party certification schemes and the role of eco-labelling is an advantage
- Extensive knowledge of the seafood industry, with existing contacts and networks highly desirable
- Well-developed IT skills, including use of standard software packages (MS SharePoint, Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Soft Skills :

- Evidence of an ability to manage relationships with stakeholders, collaborators and colleagues and with a people-centred approach to work and business
- An understanding of the issues that may BE of importance to different stakeholders
- In the MSC program, especially eNGO's and industry stakeholders
- Ability to lead teams to deliver training programs and provide strategic direction.

Organisational and Management
- Excellent project/program management, work planning, personal organisation and time management skills, with a successful record of project development and delivery
- Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects whilst making use of internal and external resources
- Able to demonstrate excellent people management skills with an ability to lead and inspire; previous line management experience is highly desirable
- Previous experience of financial management, including developing budgets and monitoring expenditure for a diverse range of projects
- Ability to exercise sound judgement and demonstrate initiative to accomplish assigned tasks
- Excellent attention to detail, remaining aware of the overall mission and vision of the organisation and your contribution to IT

Communications
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills in both French and English essential, including experience of delivering effective presentations to diverse audiences.
- Ability to communicate complex issues in a clear manner to a wide variety of audiences across diverse channels
- Demonstrated excellence in selling an idea or concept and winning support
- Previous experience planning, preparing and delivering presentations, event delivery and management is desirable.

Other Information :
- Position based in Paris
- Weekend work and regular domestic and international travel may BE required
